Once I started experiencing slight allergies or sensitivities to things I’d never been sensitive to before I knew something had to be done before it got out of hand into the realm of more powerful allergic reactions.
Like most of us, until we notice sensitivities or begin to notice slight allergic reactions we’re probably oblivious to the chemicals that surround is as we go about our daily life.
But know it or not toxins, another name for substances that are poisonous or harmful to our body, are everywhere.
From the products we clean our home with, the paint on our walls, to upholstery and carpets and even the things we sleep on. Usually called mattresses!
And worse they’re in our beauty products, shampoos and conditioners, skincare and even our medicine cabinets. Ouch.
Nothing toxin-free about them, and we’re deliberately putting them on our bodies.
So what to do?
Heck who knew what I was having a reaction to, there was so much to choose from. And let’s be honest, it’s flipping hard to completely avoid toxic chemicals.
But it’s not too complicated to reduce our exposure to synthetic chemicals.
We always have choices. Are we going to green our lives a little, a lot, or just take a step-by-step approach.
Well if you have anyone in the house suffering from asthma I’d definitely start doing as much as possible. But for the rest of us, especially when it’s a question of financial resources, a step-by-step approach might be the way to go.
Whatever you decide, dear heart, I wanted to give you some ideas on what you can use to help you create a more toxin-free environment.
Because there’s so much information out there to wade through, and since I’ve recently started this big switcheroo for myself I’m pretty much up to speed.
And if you want to get some top tips for safer products you can’t do any better than to check out the environmental working group website.
Bearing in mind that many of the chemicals that abound in our products are endocrine disrupters. Doesn’t sound good, because it’s not good.
Here’s a list of good places to start your switch, and some Young Living products you can switch to.
You know Young Living are my go-to-place for healthy, natural ways to combat the bombardment of so much unhealthy ‘stuff’ that we’re surrounded by…right?
Let’s begin with the air you breathe
We don’t even want to talk about what’s in air freshener sprays or candles…it’s just too nasty.
Diffusing essential oils
This is the way to go to clean and purify the air everyone in your home is breathing.
Try Peppermint, Lemon or Tea Tree for clean smelling and really good air to breathe. It’s the healthiest way to do it.
I’ve just used Tea Tree on a mold spot that I noticed in the corner of our shower. We live in Florida so we’re pretty prone to mold, but who want those spores floating around the house?
So I exterminated it with Tea Tree Essential Oil. It worked a treat.
Moving on to the kitchen
The next stop on our quest to create a more toxin-free, healthier and cleaner environment.
We were healthy eaters. But clearly I needed to do more.
And when doing the research for what needed to be dumped, I discovered there were toxins everywhere. In every one of our cleaning products.
And even in the so called ‘natural’ products designed to clean fruits and vegetables.
So I began swapping things out.
I swapped out harsh, chemical-laden products with these Young Living solutions made with naturally derived ingredients.
Thieves All-purpose cleaner
Ditch the harsh chemicals and make your home sparkle with this plant-based solution. A little goes a long way.
We use this everywhere. Kitchen, bathrooms, floors, wood or tile. Even for cleaning stains on the carpet after the kids have dripped their ice cream cones all over the place.
Thieves Dish Soap
Kind to your hands and good for your dishes.
Thieves® Automatic Dishwasher Powder.
Switch those lemon scented dishwasher powders that have never been near a real lemon, and know that you’re eating off sparkling clean dishes where no toxins have been left behind. This product like all Young Living products is infused with essential oils, making it safe, truly natural and healthy.
Thieves Fruit and Veggie Spray
Whatever you use to wash your fruit and veg with, is just as important as what you use to clean your dishes. A couple of spritzes of this spray, followed by a quick water rinse and you’re eating your fruits and veggies as nature meant for them to be eaten.
Upgrade your personal care products
Check out the products you use regularly and see what nasty chemicals might be lurking in them.
And you can definitely find safer alternatives when it comes to personal care items. Because after all, who would deliberately use toxic chemicals on their skin or hair. Not us!
Don’t be fooled by the things you see advertised on the telly.
I saw a product the other day where they were proclaiming to have ‘all natural oils’ in them. Maybe they do have oils in them, but how pure they are is another matter.
Having become a big label reader, it also made me wonder what else might be hidden in their ‘natural’ product.
So if you want to be sure you are getting items that are genuinely made from natural, plant-based ingredients….look no further.
